PRINCIPAL

Mr. Manuel Cardoza

Manuel Cardoza
Brothers and Sisters,
“I give thanks to my God at every remembrance of you, praying always with joy in my every prayer for all of you, because of your partnership for the gospel from the first day until now” (Philippians 1:3-5). I choose this verse from the Letter of St. Paul to the Philippians because it reflects the mission that we have towards one another. As Paul says, we are in a “partnership for the gospel” and as he did, we are called to pray for one another, with joy in our hearts and out of love for our brothers and sisters, especially those in need. As the new principal of Notre Dame High School, I am excited and humbled to be able to collaborate with the whole Notre Dame Family, present and past, to prepare our students, so that they may utilize the gifts and talents that the Lord has granted them, especially in our ever changing society. In my work with young people, I have learned a great deal about the everyday challenges they encounter, in family life, in their social circles and fears about the future. As Christians, we are called to accompany them, to listen to them, to allow them to flourish and to fail without judgements.

The credo of Notre Dame is “Cor Unum Et Anima Una”, which translates, “One Heart, One Spirit, which comes from the Acts of the Apostles. In the early Church community, each person knew each other, was committed to one another and wanted the very best for the other. As Christians, our greatest and deepest desire is eternal life, not just for ourselves, but for everyone, since we are all neighbors. It is through the merciful heart of the Lord that we have been given countless opportunities to return to him and experience the spirit of his love, so that we are made whole once again. This is my desire, not only for our students, but for all of us, that we are of “one mind and of one heart” (Acts 4:32) in extending mercy and accompanying one another, especially those who feel rejected, alone, unloved.

Finally, I wanted to share a few things with you, sisters and brothers. I grew up in Corona and I have 3 siblings. Two boys and two girls were born to my parents, Luis and Rosa Cardoza. I attended St. Edward Catholic Church growing up and graduated from Corona High School in 1996. I attended Cal State San Bernardino and earned a Bachelor's degree in history in 2001 and continued my education, attending Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio, TX, earning a Master’s degree in divinity in 2009. I enjoy sports, particularly baseball and basketball. I also enjoy movies and video games. I have a passion for social justice, emphasizing the dignity of the human person from conception to natural death and have been active with different community groups in the Inland Empire, tackling different issues that impact human dignity.

I am grateful to the Lord and to all of you. Thank you for your prayers and please be patient with this transition. If I can be of any help, please do not hesitate to ask and we will do the best that we can. Be assured of my prayers and I thank you in advance for your prayers.
